January 26, 2013 — Bill Fish tournament is celebrated with much enthusiasm every year. It has been for quite a few years. In fact, the last week witnessed the celebration of 10th anniversary of 2013 Los Sueños Signature Billfish Series. The event was a success as it always has been earlier. Every time the season of this competition arrives, Costa Rica fishing gains a lot. The excitement was rife among participants and spectators alike. The championship was strictly a ‘catch and release’ format in which participants have to release the fish after they catch. The catch is held only long enough to make it officially count. Over the time the competition has become more like a festival than an event that it used to be.
People travelled to Los Sueños in hordes and made the event a success. Besides, a few tournaments are still to be organised. The tournaments generally span nearly throughout the first 2 months of the year. Besides, a competition was held during the month of December of last year too. The speciality with 2013 was that it was the 10th anniversary of Costa Rica fishing.
International Game Fish Association (IGFA) and the World Billfish Series (WBS) sanctions Los Sueños Signature Billfish Series. There are certain advantages of participating in Costa Rica fishing as it paves the way for the enrolment in WBS automatically. Once the participants get enrolled to through Los Sueños Signature Billfish Series, they become eligible for Pacific Rim Division, where they can compete for points. The authority committee strictly regulates that only species of Marlin fish and Pacific sailfish are to be targeted. However, all the species of these fishes are allowed to be caught during the competition. There is not much risk as the fishes are released as soon as they are caught but the organising authorities do not interrupt into the course of nature.
LSOCP and IGFA observers, who are assigned to boats by the authority committee, have the responsibility of rotating participating boats. Catches and releases are accountable only when they are verified by the observer. Interestingly, the event has gradually become so organised that even photography and videography are now implemented as methods of verification during fishing Costa Rica. These verifications are available with date-time stamps.
The entry fee for participation in the competition ranges between $7,000 and $10,000 for each boat that participates. Angler bags, tournament social event tickets, caps and T-shirts are included with the ticket. Moreover, the fee also qualifies the participants to win prizes in cash and/or as trophies.
