The name is such because the main area of pain is located in between the ribs and hipbones (lumbar region). According to Wikipedia, about 80% people used to suffer from this disorder at some point in their lives.
Lumbago or backache can be classified into acute, semi-acute and chronic; based on the nature of the pain you are feeling. In general conditions, acute or the mild-state of pain is the most usual. However, often it grows to the chronic state where the patient suffers from severe continuous pain that usually lasts for three months or more. Symptoms of Lumbago: Lower back pain is the general indication of it. However, the actual symptoms may vary from people to people. It may be continuous pain, or you may feel it at some particular point of time like whenever you try to bend or when you rise from sitting position. Moreover, stiffness in the spinal area, acute pain in the back and the neck region, nausea, etc are also serving as the symptom of Lumbago or backache.
Home remedies for Lumbago: You can try to use the following home remedies in order to treat Lumbago or backache. However, it is advisable to check with a doctor if you are suffering from chronic pain.
1. Wheat: A mixture of wheat with cuscus grass and coriander will definitely help you to find relief from backache. To prepare, first take about 60 gm of wheat in water and boil it overnight. In the next morning, add 30 gm of cuscus grass and coriander to it. Later again boil the mixture of the three in 250 ml of milk until only two-third of the solution is left. Regular intake of this mixture is helpful in treating back pain.
2. Garlic: Another effective way to treat Lumbago is the use of garlic cloves, or garlic oil. To prepare the oil, you first have to fry few garlic cloves in 60 ml of mustard oil; let it cool down and then apply this oil on your back.
3. Vitamin C: You should include such foods in your diet chart that contains more vitamin C. For example, citrus food, tomatoes and strawberries, etc.
Likewise, regular exercise is very important to cure Lumbago or backache. You must do frequent cycling, walking, swimming, etc. as they would help in stretching your muscles properly. Do not go for weights that are too heavy for you. If you are in such a job, which requires you to be in sitting position for several hours a day; better try to take breaks in between by rising and walking. Furthermore, sleeping on a soft mattress is necessary in this condition. Sleep on your back and avoid sleeping on your sides. Use of a pillow to support your head will be good too.
