MIAMI, January 28, 2010 ““ “Creating this sculpture, “ËœThe Union of the World: Monument to World Peace,’ I had a dream. I dreamed that one day the people, the countries of the world, will live in Peace. In 1886 the statue of Liberty arrived to New York and became an icon of freedom; in 2010, I bring “ËœThe Union of the World’ to Miami as a symbol of Peace,“ stated international artist Ginés Serrán, at the unveiling in Miami of the largest sculpture of classical mythology in the World.

“Peace is not only your dream, but everybody’s dream. It is an honor to have this sculpture here for all the residents of Miami. The sculpture is about the meeting of two worlds. Miami is the gateway to the Americas, it is the bridge between North and South America.“ said Mayor Regalado. The Mayor presented the artist with the Key to the City of Miami for his artistic contributions to the City of Miami and humanitarian contributions to the world.

Dr. Dame Evangeline Gouletas, Former First Lady of New York State and renowned real estate developer, together with Tomás P. Regalado, the Honorable Mayor of the City of Miami and internationally acclaimed artist Ginés Serrán, unveiled the world’s largest bronze sculpture of classical mythology, “The Union of the World: Monument to World Peace,“ this past Saturday in Miami’s thriving Mary Brickell Village.

Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain, conveyed a message from Spain: "Congratulations on this important initiative for creating closer links between our two continents in a context of peace and cooperation. Best wishes of success for the inauguration ceremony."

Politicians, dignitaries and celebrities alike gathered for the historic unveiling that brought together European and American culture and history, all in the name of world peace. Princess Renate Zu Windisch-Graetz, Honorable Santiago Cabanas, Consul General of Spain, Honorable Antonios Sgouropoulos, Consul General of Greece in Tampa, FL, Honorable Constantinos Alexandris, Consul of Greece in Washington, D.C., Brigadier General Patrick Rea, Grand Commander of the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem, and actress Gabrielle Anwar were among those present to witness the significant inauguration.

“This occasion was a strong testament to how many people are committed to creating peace in the world,“ said Evangeline, who worked with Gines Serrán and the office of the Mayor of the City of Miami to secure Miami as a permanent home for the monument.

“ËœThe Union of the World,’ which will be permanently placed in Miami, will become a landmark for the City, admired by thousands of people from all over the world. Inspired by the legend of Hercules, the striking monument measures 26 feet in height and 17,600 pounds in weight and is the largest bronze sculpture of classical mythology in the world. Ginés Serrán created this monument for Peace as a symbol of the union of the Hellenic and Latino cultures with the history of the United States as well as the cultural ties of Europe with America. Born in the city of Ceuta, Spain, which according to the myth was one of the two Pillars, instead of separating the Columns of the World, the artist sculpted the hero uniting them.

Evangeline’s commitment to the fusion of Architecture and Art was evidenced at this weekend’s unveiling. Her latest residential development, SkyPalace at Mary Brickell Village, will serve as the backdrop for this epic sculpture.
