A British manufacturer of reflective ‘conspicuity’ tape has recently released a new model of their product through which companies providing haulage contracts may advertise on the sides of their lorries whilst still adhering to the new government regulations.
The manufacturer in question is providing hauliers and haulage companies with a new bespoke type of ‘conspicuity’ tape, which can be personalised with each company’s name, logo and contacts, all perfectly visible to the naked eye. In this way, drivers running haulage contracts for the company in question — or even freelance entrepreneurs — can get their name out there simply by complying with the new safety rules.
Despite this innovation, the tape is still perfectly compliant with the 2011 regulations for this type of product, which demand that it has visible contour marking for both the sides and the front of the vehicle. The tape also carries the mandatory E-symbol, ensuring that it is legal for use by lorry drivers carrying out haulage contracts.
This tape, devised to improve road safety, reduce repair costs on lorries and avoid safety claims, is sold in 50 metre rolls and lasts up to eight years. It is also water and solvent-resistant, in order to deal with some of the most common hazards drivers carrying out haulage contracts tend to run into. It is a single-layer tape, with excellent clarity and suitable for both rigid and curtain-sided vehicles.
Current regulations for the use of safety markings on large freight vehicles in the UK state that it should be applied to any newly-registered HGV over 7.5 tonnes in weight, as well as to all trailers over 3.5 tonnes in weight. Along with a series of proposed measures for large-vehicle circulation within the London city limits, these are among the main steps taken by traffic regulation authorities to reduce the rate of HGV-related incidents within the British Isles.
