25 July, 2014: Leading American economics newspaper the Financial Times recently published a feature on their website offering advice about where to go, what to see and where to eat for tourists renting Amalfi villas and keen on exploring the region.
With a precisely mapped-out route and directions, this piece, published in May, seeks to serve as a ‘road trip guide’ of sorts to the Amalfi Coast, clueing tourists in to both its best-known attractions and its hidden gems.
The trajectory detailed in the financial behemoth’s website piece begins in Naples, a town which, while generally grimy and without much to see, does offer some excellent chances to try the local food. Neapolitan dishes are renowned even in the context of Italian gastronomy, and tourists visiting this region should take the time to discover exactly why that is the case, as well as gaze upon several examples of the architecture that made the country famous in centuries past.
From there, the writer recommends moving on to Brusciano, a small town on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, where, aside from tasting more delicious dishes, tourists renting Amalfi villas can gaze upon the imposing volcano. Next, it is time to move on to Capri, where visitors can not only rub shoulders with Italy’s rich and powerful, but also take a dip in one of the island’s exclusive beach clubs.
Back to the mainland, the newspaper recommends a visit to the town of Amalfi, itself laden with interesting buildings and historic sights (including the imposing cathedral), as well as a few more understated and authentic eateries. The Financial Times’s trip through the Amalfi Coast then comes to an end at Ravello, a somewhat touristy town that nonetheless offers a chance to indulge in some culture at the Forum or a hearty vegetable stew whilst gazing out to sea.
This is one of the prime tourist destinations in Italy, and Amalfi villas welcome significant amounts of visitors each year.
