16, June 2015: On Friday, April 17th, the Flemish Youth Hostel Association (HI Belgium — Flanders) welcomed another new hostel into the Hostelling International network: Hostel H, the first City Hostel in Hasselt.

No nonsense but with all the comfort you need

A representative from Hostelling International says the brand new hostel has a modern and young look and feel to it, and aims to attract young travellers, budget tourists, schools and youth associations.

The hostel has a total capacity of 120 beds divided over 40 en suite rooms. There are 25 twin rooms, 10 four-bed dorms and 5 six-bed dorms. So whether travellers prefer a private room, or rather a bed in a shared dorm, it’s totally up to them. The common areas, such as the bar, the lounge and the backpackers’ kitchen are the ideal meeting place to make new friends. Groups can use the large conference room, which has a total capacity of about 55 people and can be divided into three smaller rooms. There’s free wifi available throughout the hostel and breakfast is included.

Art in the picture

Above the hostel entrance there is a large display window that will be used to promote culture and events in the city. Local artists can show their work – including the graffiti painter who got the first job. Located close to the railway station, this is a great signboard for the city.

Great location

The hostel is perfectly located close to the railway station and within walking distance of the centre of Hasselt. The spokesperson from Hostelling International says the new building is part of a larger project, including the construction of a big city park and residential area, which will make the neighbourhood a trendy and upcoming place, in a green and friendly environment.

Capital of Taste

Hasselt is the ideal city to be explored on foot, with car-free shopping streets, trendy shops, cosy terraces, gastronomic restaurants, and surprising alley short cuts. But there are also interesting museums, a sparkling culture and relaxing green areas. To escape the city, there are many outdoor options in the greater area around Hasselt, which is located in the greenest province of Belgium.

Hasselt is close to the German and Dutch border, so for travellers on their way to the Netherlands or Germany, this is the stopover not to be missed.
