18, June 2015: Many beginners fall off balancing unicycles quite often. In our childhood, we run into such a similar experience when toddling. However, failure breeds success. A fall will bring more reference and experience to guarantee a safer ride next time. But in most cases, falling off is not contributed to lacking skills. Tension is the impediment to learn to ride a balancing scooter deftly. Today, in Airwheel knowledge class, we will discuss how tension leads to falling down and give some techniques to avoid injuries brought along.
One-wheeled scooter is easy to get going for beginners. But the tension and caution for unknown things are difficult to conquer. When a beginner is nervous, his body will be stiff and physical movement will be exaggerated.
As is known, the balancing unicycle depends on a gyroscope and accelerometer to give feedbacks on changes of angle, center of gravity and speed, then drive internal electrical machine to respond to the feedbacks and keep the scooter in balance. The gyroscope and accelerometer are hyper sensitive. Normally, a skillful rider controls the scooter with gentle movement of his gravity center. But exaggerated body movement brought along by tension will affect the stability of riding.
The easiest mistake made by beginners is being too nervous and staring down at the scooter. Actually, when riding, it is better to keep upper body straight and look straight ahead. Lowering your head and bending down may make you feel safer but it is harder for beginners to keep balance. Meanwhile, riding without looking forward sounds quite dangerous. It is very likely to stumble into people and obstacles on the road.
For skillful riders, falling off a scooter is often a result of over speed. On the contrary, it is a result of too low speed for Beginners. Beginners ride a scooter slowly because of fear. But the slower the speed is, the harder it is to keep balance. I think most people who have learned to ride bicycles will agree to this. For such a transport vehicle in dynamic balance, it must move forward with certain speed. Therefore, beginners must conquer inner tension and uneasiness, and give a bold attempt.
Overcoming sense of fear is the prerequisite to learn to ride a balancing scooter. Airwheel electric scooter expects all beginners to set foot in the riding activity, successfully master new skills, rock the streets and commute in a green style. Certainly, keeping a brave heart and overcoming excessive fear is the right attitude towards life.
