Orlando, FL — July 7, 2015 — For many individuals who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, every day can be a complete struggle. While pain and inflammation are the two most common symptoms of the condition, there are other undesirable consequences associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis inflammation can potentially cause depression. Nowadays, depression has become one of the reasons why people succumb to suicide. It is a silent disease that kills thousands of people without even getting a lot of attention from the media. There are several risk factors of depression, and one is the existence of conditions such as arthritis.
“Suffering from a debilitating condition such as arthritis can lead people to refrain from doing the physical activities that they normally do,” said Divine Bounty spokesperson, Melissa Scott.
¬According to researchers, individuals with rheumatoid arthritis are two to four times more likely to suffer from depression than those who do not have the condition. Rheumatoid arthritis can cause inflammation around the body, and this made researchers wonder if it directly results in depression. They also opined that the increase in the disease activity, which leads to depression, could potentially be caused by inflammation.
Mary Margaretten, M.D., a University of California San Francisco rheumatologist, believes that disability and pain are traditional factors that are believed to cause depression in relation to rheumatoid arthritis. There is also a chance that inflammation due to rheumatoid arthritis greatly contributes to the development of depression.
The International Journal of Clinical Rheumatology presented a report, which was co-authored by Dr. Margaretten. According to this report, individuals with rheumatoid arthritis are more susceptible to cardiovascular disease associated with inflammation. It is important to remember that just like cardiovascular ailments, depression is also associated with rheumatoid arthritis inflammation.
Another report submitted by the researchers of the John Hopkins University found that major depression in males is closely linked to the increased levels of C-reactive protein. CRP is a known marker of inflammation, and is perceived by scientists to be an excellent subject to study.
Nowadays, rheumatoid arthritis sufferers have been exploring the pain management options available that work for them. There are those who refrain from the use of NSAIDs and other pain relief drugs to avoid side effects, and turn to natural alternatives such as curcumin supplements.
Curcumin is a powerful phytochemical found in turmeric, which is an ancient, medicinal spice. Curcumin is believed to have very powerful healing substances such as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties (http://amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Extract-Vegetarian/dp/B00VSVKJ8I/).
