Orlando, FL — September 9, 2015 — To have a medical condition is one of the things that makes a lot of people suffer nowadays. However, it is not only ailments that cause suffering in some people, but also bad memories. The good news is that there is a spice believed to be effective not just in reducing one’s risk of diseases, but also in letting go of memories that belong to the past.
Research finds turmeric to be potentially effective in blocking bad memories. Turmeric is widely believed to be a powerful healing spice. It contains a phytochemical called curcumin that is considerably responsible for the therapeutic benefits turmeric has to offer. According to experts, curcumin contains healing substances such as antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties.
“Curcumin supplements are widely available in the market today, and they are used for a range of medicinal purposes,” said Divine Bounty spokesperson, Melissa Scott.
In a new rat study, which was published in the Neuropsychopharmacology journal, it was found that curcumin has some protective effects from neurodegenerative diseases. This protection may potentially be helpful among individuals who have post-traumatic stress disorder (PSTD) and want to let go of their bad memories.
The researchers from the Hunter College and the Graduate Center at the City University of NewYork conducted a study to determine whether or not curcumin could help fight PSTD. They fed the subject rats with pellets that contained curcumin. They also conditioned the subject animals to fear by shocking their feet and playing a tone.
After the conditioning, they analyzed the brain of the rats. There were also other sets of experiments that involved having the rats recallthe fear memory. It was found that the rats fed with curcumin experienced a difficult time regaining the fear memory. The researchers suggest that curcumin played an essential role in letting go of the bad memories.
According to Glenn Schafe, PhD, a professor in the Hunter College’s department of psychology and the study coauthor, curcumin has efficiently prevented fear memory reconsolidation. What makes it even more interesting is that the effect seemed to last for a long time. While these promising results were purely based on a rat study, researchers believe that curcumin could be an excellent ingredient to use in testing human subjects in the future.
It is believed that the anti-inflammatory property of curcumin affects the brain’s cellular process. Inflammation is associated with the development of conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and PSTD. An anti-inflammatory agent such as curcumin could potentially aid in the many processes involving the brain, such as memory formation.
Individuals who want to let go of bad memories may try using curcumin supplements. There is no harm in using curcumin supplements since they are associated with a range of health benefits (amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Extract-Vegetarian/dp/B00VSVKJ8I).
