Orlando, FL — October 13, 2015 — Arthritis is not just painful; its negatively life-changing effects also tend to reduce the overall quality of life of sufferers. The good news is that there are measures believed to be helpful for reducing the risk of arthritic conditions such as osteoarthritis.

Texting and other lifestyle factors are linked with the development of osteoarthritis. Habits such as texting and cracking knuckles can be detrimental to joint health, and thus, avoiding them can also help reduce the risk.

There are risk factors believed to contribute to the development of osteoarthritis. These factors include playing video games, texting, crackling knuckles, wearing high heel shoes, diet, and engaging in high impact exercises.

According to Yusuf Yazici, M.D., from NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases, individuals who are constant texters are at an increased risk of osteoarthritis. A study that involved 257 children ages 9 to 15 revealed that the participants who used cell phones more often reported pain. The findings of the study were based on the use of abbreviations, keyboard type, and the number of messages sent.

Dr. Yazici states that the gadgets or devices widely available nowadays are not designed for the use of children. Kids have bones and tendons that are still developing. Constant or heavy use of gadgets can result in joint injuries, which can potentially trigger the development of osteoarthritis.

The study was presented by Yazici in the annual congress of the European League Against Rheumatism in 2011. It was also revealed that osteoarthritis was more common in boys who played video games constantly. Fortunately, certain diets, such as those with high levels of vitamin E, are believed to be helpful as a preventive measure.

In the Framingham study in 1996, it was revealed that the risk of knee osteoarthritis progression reduced by 30 percent with high intake of vitamin E.

The researchers from the University of Iowa’s Kinesiology department revealed that wearing high heels for prolonged periods can increase the risk of knee osteoarthritis. The good news is that there are remedies believed to be helpful for fighting arthritis conditions.

The use of glucosamine supplements has been increasing in popularity over the years. Glucosamine is a naturally occurring substance inside the body, but it can be obtained through supplementation. This natural ingredient is believed to be a better alternative to pain relief drugs, especially among individuals with arthritis.

The most popular glucosamine supplements contain a compound called Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), which is believed to help reduce arthritis pain and inflammation (http://amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Supplement-2000mg-serving/dp/B0126ZF0B0/).
