Registration now open for interested praise dance teams
Memphis, Tennessee, December 15, 2015 - Ballet On Wheels Dance School & Company announces its quest for the best praise dance team with their upcoming “Dance In His Name” Showcase. The sixth annual liturgical dance competition will be presented Saturday, March 12 2016, and interested dance teams locally and from across the country are now invited to register to compete for cash prizes and trophies, with $750 presented to the Grand Prize Winner. “Dance in His Name” is dedicated to showcasing the art and inspiration behind praise dancing, as well as giving participants a way to praise the Lord Creator, and challenge dance groups to extend their worship.
Founded in 2005, “Dance in His Name” has awarded $ 8,000 in cash prizes to date. This year the praise dance performance competition will be presented at Southwind High School's theater on March 12, 2016 at 4:00 p.m at 7900 E. Shelby Drive, Memphis, Tennessee 38125. Tickets for the event are now on sale, and founder Chauniece Conner Thompson urges praise dance teams who want to participate register as soon as possible to ensure placement in this renowned competition. Over 60 dance teams have participated in the event to date, with individuals arriving from Texas, Alabama, and other parts of the country. Each team will be scored on their overall performance, as well as coordination, technique, creativity, synchronization, projection, and costuming.
“We've received a lot of attention from the dance community, and I'm thrilled with the reception this joyous and exciting competition has garnered, but most of all, I'm honored we can offer a unique Christian dance showcase to the community,” says Conner - Thompson. “Our showcase and contest is designed to show the wide variety of praise dance, and foster fellowship among our fellow dancers and teams.”
Ballet On Wheels Dance School & Company is an acclaimed African-American ballet school that offers instruction for youth ages 3 to 18 in the Memphis area. The focus is teaching young dancers creative self-expression, art education, and an appreciation of classical ballet among other dance genres. The group also regularly offers performances throughout the year, and “Dance in His Name” is one of the highlights of the season.
