07, November 2016: Over the last year, Pollen has placed candidates in a wide range of market research jobs across the agency and client sides. On the agency side, this spans leading global and boutique research agencies and branding consultancies. On the client side, sectors are wide-ranging including leading charities, media owners and FMCG companies/brands. Whilst largely focussed on the UK and specifically London, Pollen now recruits on an international basis including Europe, the US, China, Singapore and Australia.
In terms of an overview of assignments, for an agency coming over from the US, they have created a whole European team as a start-up. For another, they have been working with the client’s digital forensics team which has a strong qual twist. On the client side, they are developing a new strategic insights team as well as searching for a senior consumer insight lead to work on a leading global blue chip brand. They recruit from Research Executive up to Managing Director level across the quantitative, qualitative, strategic insights, analytics and consulting areas. The feedback the team consistently receive from candidates is that they are different to other recruiters in that they really listen to what candidates want and are very tailored in their approach. Appreciating that everyone is busy, they only suggest roles that are a great match and according to candidates’ briefs. Their clients trust them and they are often able to secure interviews where other recruiters can’t. A recent analysis of placements shos that the large majority have been made by presenting just one candidate; candidates get so much more credibility with this approach and it saves everyone time. They offer dedicated support to candidates including thorough briefings and coaching if needed to help them secure the market research job they want.
Very focused on understanding clients’ requirements in terms of experience, skill set/technical ability and personality fit for their market research jobs, they only present candidates who match these. Around 50% of placements have been from candidates returning to work with them or referring their colleagues/friends. These established and trust-based relationships mean they have a deeper understanding of their candidates. It also means that they have access to candidates who are not actively looking for a new role but are open to speaking about suitable roles. Pollen also attract candidates through advertising as well as directly approaching candidates from companies that they do not work with (they never head-hunt from their own clients). As they are very targeted with who they approach (and have done their due diligence by the time they do approach), their conversion rate of candidates presented to job offers is very high. They are known for their honest, straight forward, considered approach; they challenge when necessary, think about the client brief and add value to their recruitment process.
Bridget Barry, co-founder said “We are absolutely delighted with our first year. Our focus on providing a high quality, tailored service and our values of honesty and integrity have been so well received, we are looking forward to building on this in the coming years.”
