IBM ink toners can be purchased new, direct from the company or the original equipment manufacturer, also referred to as OEM. But, remanufactured cartridges may also be available. The remanufactured versions are composed of OEM cartridges that have been cleaned, checked for damages and refilled. Typically, they are sold over the internet.
The advantages of buying remanufactured products are several. First, it is the greenest alternative. Remanufacturing prevents the cartridges from ending up in a landfill somewhere. It also reduces the need to make more of them, which reduces the number of petrochemicals used by the original equipment manufacturer.
Today, plastics are everywhere. What would we do without them? They make our lives easier and simpler. They make heavy items lighter weight and they are more durable than other materials.
Plastics are composed of petrochemicals, which are derived from petroleum or crude oil. Crude oil is, of course, one of our limited natural resources. We really cannot do without plastics these days, but we can reduce the amount of new plastic items we use.
The problem with plastics that end up in a landfill is that they are not biodegradable. Scientists are unsure if they would ever dissolve in the natural environment. The best that we can do with old IBM ink toners cartridges is to reuse them or cover them up with a mound of dirt, where they will stay for possibly millions of years.
While most people are trying to recycle, reduce and reuse, that might not be something that motivates you. Maybe, the other main advantage will mean something to you.
Remanufactured inkjet cartridges cost a fraction of the price charged by original equipment manufacturers. Yet the only difference between an OEM and a remanufactured product is that the cartridge was used once before. What is inside of the cartridge is exactly the same as IBM ink toners. So, why pay more for something that performs the same job and is ultimately the same thing?
Most of these remanufactured cartridges come with a satisfaction guarantee. So, if you are not happy with your purchase, you can always return it. It is safe to say that you will be satisfied. Everyone that tries them feels that they are worth the money and work just as well as the OEM parts.
The only problem that you could run into has to do with availability. Not all sizes are available. But, it is still a good idea to check on a regular basis to see if the IBM ink toners you need are in stock.
