Orlando, FL — June 12, 2015 — Depression is one of the most common consequences of suffering from pain caused by a medical condition such as arthritis. Albeit there are other conditions that cause the psychological problem, it is nonetheless common in arthritis patients.
A study showed that depression is prevalent among rheumatoid arthritis patients. According to the study, it has long been noted that there is a link between arthritis and depression. However, it has not been established or validated yet whether it is caused by the stress of having pain and disability or if it is a part of the autoimmune disease itself.
Dr. Tatiana Lisitsyna, PhD, Russian Academy of Medical Sciences rheumatologist and senior scientific researcher, has stated that their concept was that rheumatoid arthritis and depression are two sides of similar process. They believed in the possibility that depression could be present already even before the condition developed or the symptoms appeared and worsened. It could be due to the influence of factors such as the additional chronic stress of RA.
“In the research conducted by Dr. Lisitsyna and her team, they evaluated 75 individuals who suffered from rheumatoid arthritis. Half of the subjects were older and the other half were younger,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.
It was found that 74 percent of the patients experienced moderate to severe pain. It also showed that 63 percent of the subjects suffered from depression, which is a diagnosable psychiatric disorder. There were 33 percent who had sleep disorders and 23 percent with cognitive dysfunction.
Depression can happen to anyone, and it is considered to be responsible for the deaths of many people around the world. Patients who are not given the right medical attention usually succumb to depression, and this often leads to a wide variety of undesirable consequences such as physical inactivity, weight gain and the development of other medical conditions.
There are many arthritis patients who resort to different treatment options just to achieve pain relief. NSAIDs and other pain relief drugs are widely used, but there is an increasing number of patients that are exploring the therapeutic benefits of natural alternatives.
Curcumin supplements are one of the most popular natural alternatives today. The ingredient is obtained from the medicinal, ancient spice known as turmeric. Curcumin supplements that contain BioPerine are believed to be more effective in helping sufferers achieve significant pain relief. BioPerine is a black pepper extract that helps increase the absorption of nutrients such as curcumin in the body (amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI).
