New York City stamp auctioneer Cherrystone Auctions will soon conduct a special auction featuring thousands of rare and valuable stamps from around the world. The stamps available at the auction on July 26th and July 27th will be from what is known as the Beville Collection, a collection of stamps from 1840-1940. Pre-auction bidding is currently taking place on Cherrystone’s website, listed below.
In announcing the special upcoming auction, Cherrystone Auctions describes its inspiration for curating the auction’s contents. “The Scott’s Classic Catalogue 1840-1940 provided an inspiration for the Beville Collection, which we now present in a special 1,265 lot sale on July 26-27, 2017,” the New York City auction house writes.
The 1,265 lots consist of over 86,000 different stamps, Cherrystone goes on to explain, that originated in many different current and historical countries and political entities from around the world—beginning with the United States and ending with Zululand.
While many major stamp auctions focus on glamorous and iconic stamps, the Beville Collection instead highlights the “unsung and often undervalued rarities from the various Imperial Colonies and far reaches of the globe.”
Among the often-overlooked stamp locales included in the collection are a significant number of stamps from Asia, the British Commonwealth, the Indian Feudatory States, British Africa and Australasia and Europe and Colonies. Additionally, stamps from France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, South and Latin America and many other countries are included in the Beville Collection. “There are hundreds of large lots throughout the sale,” Cherrystone writes, “with many intact country collections.”
Currently, pre-auction bidding is taking place, to conclude shortly before the live auction begins; pre-auction bids can be placed online. Remote bidding on lots from the Beville Collection is also possible during the days of the live auction through Cherrystone’s CherrystoneLIVE feature available on its website. A picture and description of each lot up for sale is also available on the auction house’s website.
