A recent news report revealed that dunkin donuts has finally apologised for using a blackface in an advertising campaign in Thailand which included a woman promoting their chocolate donut. According to some press reports it is known that in early August the company’s franchise in Thailand launched an advertising campaign in order to promote its new charcoal donut which included a smiling woman with a blackface make up and pink lipstick. This created quite a stir in the ad world. Media reports claim that the slogan in Thai meant break ever rule of deliciousness. Even after so much of controversy the Thailand executive of the company defended the photo.
But to avoid any unnecessary rivalry the US office cleverly apologised stating that they are working with the Thailand franchisee to instantly remove the ad and are extremely sorry and have recognised the insensitivity of the ad. Thailand’s CEO Nadim Salhani addressed this apology as paranoid American thinking and also questioned the fuss behind it. He went on say that since the campaign launch sales have increased about 50 percent. He seemed to be pretty disturbed and told the media that not everybody in the world was paranoid about racism and continued his argument by saying that it was totally a marketing campaign and has worked out pretty well for them.
