ATLANTA GA, 11, March 2016: March 4, 2016 is a day that will forever be embedded in HipHop history representing the date another icon fell victim to gun violence. Late on the night of March 4, ‘Hot Boy’ rapper Bankroll Fresh was killed outside of Street Execs studio in Atlanta.
Bankroll Fresh helped to introduce a new generation of HipHop fans to the ‘Hot Boys,’ a superstar hiphop group from the late 90’s, early 00’s that featured Lil Wayne, Juvenile, B.G., & Turk. His 2015 single ‘Hot Boy’ paid homage to the New Orleans legends, which led to Lil Wayne, Juvenile and Turk adding verses for the ‘Hot Boy Remix.’
Six hours before Bankroll Fresh’s death, his final tweet was to Turk. Click to read his final tweet . The two developed a close relationship prior to the ‘Hot Boy’ single and their relationship remained strong thereafter. So, unsurprisingly, Turk gave an extensive tribute to Bankroll during his scheduled concert performance the following day at 2HotRadio.com ’s Hot Fest at Scores ATL on 5479 Memorial Drive. The emotion in the venue was tremendous, from excitement, to tears of sadness, felt throughout the entire building. There were several chants of “Bankroll Fresh” and “Do It for Fresh” during the evening. Although it was no comparison to experiencing the event live in person, plenty of cameras were in place to broadcast to the world via social media.
In addition to Turk’s performance, there were several other performers including Samiya, C.A.B., Double Von, Fafe P Rill, Scottie Ma'Valous, Tazz, Armada, Mustafa Captain, SoulStar, Dutch 5, Eva Marie, Fee money, GWEETO ENT, Jwood, Kain X. King Dragonslayer, Pedro, Prince Charmn, S.T.A.T., SCARIO ANDREDDI, WAY PAST FLY, Young Xavi, Ghetto, glory family, J.HASKIN, LOVEBBMT, Mecca Nashangelah, Russo, Uk Tha Unknown, Uptown Mook, Y.K.G *Young Kids Generation, sponsored by Gyasi Clothing. There was even a “Long Lasting Club Banger” award presented from Gyasi Clothing to artist Mykko Montanta for his 2011 single “Do It” which still impacts the urban clubs to this day.
Bankroll Fresh represents another popular hiphop artist gone way too soon. However, his music and impact will always remain in the HipHop history books. Many believe that Bankroll Fresh was in spirit, supporting Turk at the event.
