23, June 2015: MSC Heating, a UK renewable energy heating specialist, announced today that incorporating heat transfer pumps into your domestic central heating system could save you as much as 70% on your annual bills. This news comes at a time when many online personal finance advisors are encouraging people to switch energy suppliers and take advantage of fixed tariff deals in an effort to save cash. However, as a spokesman for the company said: “The amount of money that you could save by using heat pumps dwarfs the possible savings that switching from one conventional energy supplier to another could bring.”
The Green Angle
A further benefit of throwing out your oil or gas-fired boiler and replacing it with ground & air source heat pumps is that you will be reducing your carbon foot print too. Many people don’t realise that the UK is still very dependent on fossil fuels so anything you can do to lower your usage of gas, oil and coal is a good thing as far as the environment is concerned. The MSC company spokesperson went on to say: “Around 83% of the electricity we use in our homes is generated from these fossil fuels, which means that electrical storage heaters are just as environmentally unfriendly as gas boilers, if not worse.”
Greater Efficiency Provides Greater Savings
A well-designed heat pump produces four times the amount of energy that it consumes. This means that for every kilowatt of electricity it uses, it will produce four kilowatts of energy to heat your home. The additional three kilowatts come from a natural, sustainable source: the ambient heat in the ground and air. Another eco-friendly aspect of heat pumps is their durability. On average, a new installation will last for three times longer than a conventional boiler.
What Else Can You Do to Conserve Energy and Save Money?
As environmentally friendly renewable energy specialists, the team at MSC Heating spend their working lives looking for ways to help customers minimise energy usage. When asked what else people could do to save money on their heating bills, they offered the following suggestions:
1. Turn Down Your Thermostat — It’s a very simple measure but just by turning your thermostat down a degree or two, you could reduce your annual energy consumption by a significant amount.
2. Repair Leaking Pipes — If you are losing hot water at any point in your central heating system, this will obviously increase your energy consumption and cost you money. Spend a little now to fix these leaks and you will save more in the long run.
3. Install Good Quality Insulation — If you have not already done so, installing good quality insulation in your loft space, as well as cavity wall insulation, will help to reduce the amount of energy required to heat your home when the outside temperature plummets.
