25 July, 2014: A local committee named the Societé des Trois Vallées (Three Valleys Society), recently signed an agreement with French bank Crédit Agricole, with a view to entirely renovating their accommodation options, down to the last chalet. La Tania is, along with Méribel and Courchevel, one of the resorts expected to benefit from this total renovation plan.
Crédit Agricole, the owners of which also operate a regulatory institution for French ski resorts, will be in charge of financing this project, providing the Three Valleys Society with the right type of funding to fit their needs. On their part, the Society have taken upon themselves the responsibility of managing every stage of this process, from planning to diagnosis, specialist consultations, location management and of course close supervision of the works themselves.
So far, a number of initiatives have been put into place to ensure this renewal project is seen through to fruition. Chief among these measures are the acquisition, renewal and re-sale of two hostels and 65 apartments, as well as the purchase of at least one real-estate agency in the region. Another agency has also been created with the sole purpose of regulating and administrating the renovation project, as well as offering necessary back-up services to it.
The objective of this ambitious project is to deal headfirst with one of the heftiest problems facing French ski resort owners, the so called ‘cold beds’ they are inevitably presented with each year in many a chalet. La Tania, as any other resort, can sometimes suffer from this. As the name would indicate, the term refers to non-booked accommodation, namely buildings and chalets that need to be taken out of rotation, mostly for renovation work. Overall, it is thought that two to three percent of all accommodation in the Three Valleys area falls under this category each year. The present renovation effort seeks to eliminate the problem by carrying out improvements in all of the region’s chalets, therefore ensuring that all rental accommodation across Courchevel, Méribel and La Tania is at the same level, and that no ‘beds’ need to be made unavailable for inadequacy or obsolescence.
