Orlando, FL — November 02, 2015 — Today, there are over 50 million individuals in the United States may hurt more than just the joints of the 50 million Americans with the disease. The pain caused by the condition does not just negatively affect the physical but also the mental health of sufferers.
Millions of Americans live a reduced quality of life due to arthritis. According to researchers, the health-related quality of life lived by arthritis sufferers is two to three times worse than individuals who do not suffer from the condition.
Researchers reveal that 27 percent of individuals with arthritis reported poor overall health than the 12 percent without arthritis. It was also found that adult sufferers tend to be more likely to report having mentally, unhealthy days. This is believed to be caused by the physical limitations that hinder them from functioning normally.
The Arthritis Care & Research published a study that was based on the data accumulated by the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. The researchers made a comparison of the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of arthritis sufferers and those without the condition.
The researchers used certain indicators of the health-related quality of life. These indicators are the overall health status and the number of days that the participants were physically and mentally unwell in the past 30 days. There are also several other indicators included by the researchers.
Sylvia Furner, MPH, PhD, from the school of public health at the University of Illinois at Chicago, is a study researcher who reveals that all measures of HRQOL were two to three times worse in individuals with arthritis than those without the condition.
Individuals with arthritis reported that they spent more days being physically and mentally unhealthy. There were also days they spent having physical limitations. The researchers also reported that arthritis sufferers who were physically active had better quality of life than those who were inactive.
While the quality of life of arthritis sufferers is believed to be worse than those who do not have the condition, they can resort to various measures to improve their pain and overall quality of life. There are natural remedies available such as glucosamine supplements.
The use of pain relief drugs is still practiced by many sufferers. However, due to the widespread scare of the side effects associated with the use of pain relief medications, more and more arthritis sufferers resort to the use of natural supplements, which are believed to be safer and effective alternative to drugs (amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Supplement-2000mg-serving/dp/B0126ZF0B0/).
