The ‘Pasolini Roma’ exhibition, focusing on the works of Pier Paolo Pasolini, could be one of the must-see events this summer for guests of the Worldhotel Ripa Roma, after a prominent blogger has included it in a list of can’t-miss exhibitions for Spring 2014.
The list was drawn up on the website of media outlet the Guardian Liberty Voice, and consists of five hand-picked art shows and exhibitions taking place over the next few months. Aside from the Rome exhibition, the round-up includes events in New York, London and Paris.
The ‘Pasolini Roma’ exhibition is currently open for public viewing in Rome’s iconic Palazzo Delle Espozisioni, where it will remain until July 20 of this year. It consists of a number of artworks by filmmaker and painter Pier Paolo Pasolini from his period living in Rome, between 1950 and his tragic death in 1975. The many items waiting to be admired by both locals and guests of establishments such as Worldhotel Ripa Roma include drawings, paintings, poems and books.
Pier Paolo Pasolini left his mark in both Italian and international society for his forward-thinking vision and revolutionary points of view on a number of subjects. Born in 1922, the intellectual distinguished himself in a number of fields across the spectre of art; though best known for his films, he also made a name for himself as a journalist, playwright, painter, writer, philosopher, actor and even politician. Openly gay from the very early stages of his career, Pasolini was known to ruffle many feathers within Italian society, which many speculate may have led to his murder in the mid-1970s. At the time of his death, he was thought by many to have irrevocably impacted Italian society, and his views and thoughts are considered essential for that country’s present public frame of mind.
Among Pasolini’s list of films are several Biblical recounts, dramatisations of Greek tragedies such as ‘Oedipus’, and a film version of ‘Tales From The 1001 Nights’.
