Orlando, FL — August 27, 2015 — Alcoholism is one of the oldest and most prevalent chronic and progressive diseases nowadays. Alcohol can be found everywhere, and many people’s constant craving for it has resulted in undesirable life consequences. While going to a rehabilitation center is highly recommended, a natural spice is gaining the attention of experts because of its positive effects on alcoholic individuals.
Research reveals the potential benefits of turmeric on alcoholism. This constant craving for alcohol consumption is typically caused by psychological, environmental, or genetic factors. Almost always, it causes health, relationship and social problems such as unemployment, accidents, ailments, or families breaking apart.
According to statistics, about 16,000 individuals in the United States perish due to liver diseases associated with alcoholism each year. This problem must be recognized first before it can be treated.
“Turmeric has long been believed to offer a myriad of therapeutic benefits,” said Divine Bounty spokesperson, Melissa Scott.
While many people resort to conventional treatments such as antidepressants and tranquilizers just to quit drinking, there are side effects of alcoholism that require attention. Experts believe that natural remedies such as turmeric are potentially effective for fighting a variety of alcoholism symptoms.
Liver damage is common in alcoholics, and this condition can lead to cirrhosis or even cancer. Curcumin, which is phytochemical found in turmeric, is widely studied due to its positive effects on various liver conditions.
In a study performed at the Zagazig University in Egypt, researchers used rats with liver damage caused by oxidative stress due to the excessive consumption of alcohol and heated oil. After 12 weeks of curcumin treatment, the liver tissue and serum samples of the subject rats were examined. It was found that the group of rats treated with curcumin had less liver damage. The researchers suggest that turmeric could be a potential remedy for oxidative stress due to alcoholism.
Curcumin was also a subject of many studies due to its anti-carcinogenic and antioxidant agents. In one study, the researchers found that turmeric could be potentially useful for fighting the neurological disorders caused by alcoholism. In vitro studies performed at the Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center found that curcumin has the potential to fight hepatitis B virus that affects the liver due to alcoholism.
There were several studies conducted to investigate the effects of curcumin. Its antioxidant properties are believed to play a major role in its ability to provide protection to the liver.
Curcumin supplements can be purchased in local health stores or online. The most popular curcumin supplements are those that contain a black pepper extract called BioPerine, which is a bioavailability enhancing ingredient (http://amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Extract-Vegetarian/dp/B00VSVKJ8I/).
