Orlando, FL — April 11, 2016 - Today, millions of people from around the world suffer from medical conditions caused by unhealthy diets and lifestyles. Many of the most delicious foods available in the market nowadays are unhealthy. Eating meat is also believed to be detrimental to health, especially when it is cooked at high temperatures.

Research reveals turmeric has the potential to make meat safer. There are harmful chemicals, such as the  Heterocyclic amines (HCAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), that form when meat is cooked at high temperatures.

Meat products include beef, fish, pork, or poultry. The cooking methods are grilling or pan frying in an open flame.

In laboratory experiments, it was found that HCAs and PAHs are mutagenic, which means they can alter the DNA and this can increase a person’s risk of cancer.

According to researchers, HCAs are formed when the building blocks of proteins (called the amino acids, sugars, and creatine) react at a high temperature. PAHs, on the other hand, are formed when the juices and fat from meat drip onto the open fire. This causes flames that contain PAHs and that stick to the surface of the cooked meat.

Studies reveal that in animal models, exposure to HCAs and PAHs could cause cancer. In various experiments, it was even found that rodents with a diet supplemented with HCAs suffered from tumors in the skin, lung, liver, colon, and prostate.

According to the researchers from Kansas State University, adding turmeric to meat can decrease the levels of HCAs by 40 percent. This is believed to be a promising research result considering that consumption of HCAs has been associated with an increased risk of cancer.

Turmeric is believed to be one of the oldest medicinal spices that many people from around the world are still using nowadays. It is not just a popular kitchen ingredient that adds color and taste to dishes but is also a powerful medicinal spice.

Turmeric contains an active ingredient called curcumin, which is a phytochemical. Curcumin is thought to be the major source of the spice’s therapeutic effects. This phytochemical contains healing substances such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties.

Consumers may incorporate turmeric in their diet to take advantage of its therapeutic effects. They may add it on their cooked meat before eating. There are also curcumin supplements available that are thought to contain high levels of healing properties.

The most popular curcumin supplements nowadays are those that contain a bioavailability-enhancing ingredient called BioPerine, which is a black pepper extract (www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Supplement-BioPerine-Capsule/dp/B0166KAW8M/).
