River cruises, Italy’s Fourth of July celebrations and the FIFA World Cup are only a few of the reasons given by US newspaper the Huffington Post in a recent article titled ’20 Reasons You MUST Travel This Summer’.
The feature, which sought to encourage readers of the leading American periodical to take holidays abroad, was published on the well-known website, and presented a number of different arguments in favour of taking a holiday abroad as part of the 2014 summer season.
The reasons presented by the feature writer to justify such an endeavour were suitably varied, and ranged from price-related issues to the appeal of speciality or activity holidays, two markets which have rapidly been growing in popularity among tourists from both the United States and Europe. Among these holidays, river cruises — Italy has several well-known routes— were perhaps given the biggest highlight, with the write-up calling them the ‘next big thing’ in worldwide tourism.
Aside from speciality holidays, the feature went on to suggest a number of events and locations American tourists might be interested in visiting this summer season. Here, again, the selection was quite broad, ranging from food festivals to the recently-opened Harry Potter-themed amusement park in Florida, right through to the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the fourth of July celebrations in Italy and any number of prominent European music festivals. Surfing events and ‘summer camps’ for adults were also among the suggestions provided by the article for a 2014 holiday abroad.
Other arguments mooted by the feature author included the fact that the American winter was brutal and the summer is not expected to be particularly pleasant, as well as observations pertaining to the availability of affordable flights to a number of destinations, from European mainstays to more exotic locations such as Russia and Indonesia.
