09, May 2015: With summer fast approaching and a host of festivals slated for spring/summer 2015 all across Europe, travel experts are predicting a busy time for travellers.
Hostelling International, the only global network of Youth Hostel Associations, is encouraging members to build an itinerary around the Europe festival route for 2015. With 4,000 hostels around the world, Hostelling International members can save a further 10% on the cost of an already very affordable accommodation option.
Focusing on ‘coast and culture’, Hostelling International has revealed some of their top picks for the 2015 festival route in Europe.
France: Cannes – Cannes Film Festival May13th-24th
Rub shoulders with the glitterati at the world’s most famous cinema event. Even though you need industry accreditation to attend any official screenings, there is plenty going on in the outdoor Cinema de la Plage. The renowned beauty of Cannes and Nice coastline are at their very best at this exciting time of the year.
Turkey: Istanbul — Babylon Soundgarden May23rd
With international DJs, dancers and musicians, Babylon Kilyos comes alive with the spirit of summer during this vibrant festival.
Spain: Barcelona — Primavera Sound May28th-30th
This hugely popular indie festival attracts some big names in the music industry. This year the line-up includes Patti Smith, the Black Keys, Interpol and James Blake. Now in its 15th year, Primavera Sound takes place in the picturesque surrounds of Barcelona’s Parc del Forum.
Greece: Athens — Art-Athena, International Contemporary Art Fair 4th-7th June
The largest visual arts festival in Greece, and one of the oldest in Europe, Art Athena is a must for lovers of contemporary art. This year it is taking place in the Faliro Pavilion.
Croatia: Zagreb — INmusic Festival June22nd-24th
With a picturesque setting on the banks of Lake Jarun, INmusic is an intimate festival with names that pack a punch. This year the line-up includes Placebo, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Death Cab for Cutie and Future Island.
Slovenia: Ljubljana — Summer Festival July1st-September
Held in the open air Krizanke Summer Theatre, the diversity and scope of this festival is legendary. Spanning over two months, visitors can dip in an out of a range of dance and musical events while exploring this beautiful country.
