St Lucia was affected by some serious flooding in December, and it even led to a number of deaths across the country. However, that has not stopped it welcoming tourists during the New Year, which is great news for luxury hotels like the famous Cap Maison. St Lucia is a top tourist destination and tourism minister, Lorne Theophilus, has now announced that the country is “open for business”.
Back to Business
St Lucia has a strong tourism industry with many people visiting the country to see the stunning tropical scenery, beaches and other highlights. The flooding on Christmas Eve was serious, but tourists are being welcomed back to the country with the assurance that it is business as usual. Some things were closed temporarily, including the airports and seaports, but they are now back in action and welcoming new arrivals.
Cruise ships are arriving, tour operators are still working and, although the infrastructure has been affected, tourists are still able to enjoy a great stay here, at popular luxury hotels like Cap Maison. St Lucia hotels welcome visitors throughout the year, and it encouraging to know they can still visit and enjoy a stay in the country following the storm.
The floods led to serious mudslides and, tragically, a number of deaths. St Lucia was not the only island affected, with St. Vincent, the Grenadines and Dominica also suffering. Roads and bridges were affected and even the prime minister’s residence was damaged.
However, despite the hardships endured, visitors can still enjoy all of the top highlights that St Lucia has to offer. These include Smugglers’ Cove, a stunning beach on the island; Castries Central Market; Sulphur Springs; the beautiful village of Anse La Ray; and of course the Pitons, the Gros Piton and the Petit Piton.
